The Princess Theatre in Prosser showcases many types of art. On the back of their building was a blank wall that they have been wanting to do something with for a number of years. A mural design was commission with the famous Shakespeare quote "all the world's a stage" and when funding came through we were able to complete the project.
The blank block wall is the main traffic point between the Theatre's Green Room and backstage - all actors in a production pass this spot many times during a show. Additionally the alley that it faces is highly trafficked from nearby businesses so it was something the community would also get to see and enjoy.
The mural design was transferred by projector and then painting began. It was completed over a five day period, with two young local artists assisting in the process of blocking in the large areas of color to speed up the process.
Since the mural was designed without a background, and because the block had not previously been primed or painted, one of the challenges was the large amount of paint that was absorbed by the wall. As well as ensuring even coverage so that no small gaps or holes were left.
The completed mural is a colorful abstract design that we hope brings joy to the viewer!
