Many towns in my area have a rich agricultural history. This is true of Grandview, where the memories of the towns beginnings from early homesteading right through to current happenings is preserved at the Grandview Museum. They wanted to draw attention and also revive a piece of the past by recreating one of the old 'Welcome to Grandview' signs as a mural on the building.
The mural design was projected at a size of about 22 feet long, and the top is about 16 feet above the ground. This was then marked out on the building and painting began with the black parts of the design.
The board had also made the decision to have the landscape included at one end of the mural to be painted in color, as a later version of the sign was in color. This landscape was adjusted slightly from the original to include three main crops of the area - grapes, hops, and orchard - along with a processing plant and an irrigation canal. The original included only grapes.
The finished mural is a large eye catching design that is seen from the Hwy through town as residents and visitors drive by.
